Discover Our Story

In July 2022, best friends Eli Villongco and Niccolo E. Sohn founded Riptide Films as a vehicle to for the visual stories everyone wanted to see but no one knew how to bring to life. Having been raised in the South Bay as friends for more than ten years, this due continues to capture their South Bay upbringing and home through narrative as well local commercial work.

Niccolo Esquivelzeta Sohn

Co-founder

Niccolo Esquivelzeta Sohn is a writer-director and videographer based in Torrance, CA, and originally from Mexico City. A graduate from California State University Long Beach’s Film and Electronic Arts Program, Niccolo splits his time between diverse set work and independent film production as well as commercial video production.

Niccolo’s filmmaking expertise ranges from acting, through fight choreography to first assistant directing culminating in his screenwriting and directorial work on the award-winning short The Lie Count (2023), part of Riptide’s Swipe Right anthology series currently in on-going production.

Co-Founder

Elijah Villongco

Filipino-American screenwriter, actor, and director, Eli Villongco,  graduated from Cal State Long Beach’s Film program in screenwriting. He is an experienced stunt coordinator and fight choreographer, and helps run Pamana Kali, a Filipino Martial Arts school. Eli wrote and starred in Where Paths Cross (2026), part of the Swipe Right series, and served as fight choreographer for The Uncanny Valley (2026) web mini-series.
